AltBrain

Privacy

AltBrain is built on a simple principle: your knowledge belongs to you. Here's how we handle your data.

We don't train on your content

Your content is never used to train AI models. When you upload documents, notes, or any other content to your brain, it's stored securely and only used to serve search queries from people who connect to your brain.

Data stored in the EU

All data is stored in the European Union. Our database is hosted in Ireland (eu-west-1) and file storage is in the Netherlands. This provides strong GDPR-aligned data protection regardless of where you are.

You control what's public

Nothing is shared without your explicit choice. You decide what content goes into a public brain. Content you add to a brain is searchable by people who connect to it — that's the point — but nothing is shared beyond what you publish.

Export and delete anytime

You can export all your data at any time. You can also delete individual items, entire brains, or your complete account. Deletion is permanent — we don't keep shadow copies.

How search works under the hood

When you add content, we generate vector embeddings — mathematical representations that power semantic search. These embeddings are not your original text; they're numerical patterns that help AI find relevant content. Your original text is stored separately and only returned in search results.

No third-party analytics tracking

We don't use third-party analytics services that track your behavior within the app. We use error monitoring (Sentry) with PII disabled to catch bugs, but we don't profile how you use the product.

GDPR-aligned data handling

We handle all personal data in alignment with GDPR principles: data minimization, purpose limitation, storage limitation, and your right to access, rectify, and erase your data. EU data residency means your data stays under EU jurisdiction.
